Wow, 2017 has come to an end! Where does the time go so quickly? 2017 was a great year of personal growth for us. It had its ups and downs. I do believe that if we learn from life experiences, we are better people for it.
On the downside – We held steady through a job loss, and one of our properties fell victim to arson, but on the upside – we began working on getting a new business off the ground, the garden was the best ever we’ve had, we were able to install a drip irrigation system, and I completed my certification as a Master Gardener.
We are continuing to move forward with our dreams here on the homestead.
A lot of the to-do-list for 2017 will remain on the list for 2018, but we did have accomplishments too. I published 18 articles in 2017, and the website was launched; still not perfect, but you can now subscribe to it and receive my blogs to your email.
For the beginning, I don’t think this is too bad. Considering I built it myself, and I am for sure not a tech-savvy person.
When I started, I didn’t even know what word-press was or even how to begin to build one, and my budget for it is $0. It still has a way to go, but it is on its way.
I also read some really great books in 2017. I’ll post a list at the bottom for links. I believe reading is super important and we should encourage all to read.
I also want to thank everyone for your responses. Without you, the website is just a website. With you, it’s a place of connection and learning that we experience together. I don’t know all there is about gardening, raising animals, and homesteading, but with you, we will learn.

Setting Goals for 2018:
I don’t like to set resolutions because I feel like those always fail, but I do like to set goals for the year to come and figure out how I am going to get them accomplished. I feel like if I share them with you, I will hold myself more accountable and accomplish more.
So here goes…
- Publish 50 articles on the website, including tutorials
- Learn how to link the website to Twitter, Pinterest, FB, My Etsy store, and Instagram
- Make the website more “user” friendly
- Complete the greenhouse we started building in 2017 and never finished
- Build a Herb Garden for perennial herbs
- Design and build an area to grow the gourds this year
- Build the garden shed that is so much needed to get all my garden tools into one location
- Get my workroom ORGANIZED
- Conquer the Cameo 3 machine
- Clean out the garage – HUGE JOB!
- Read MORE personal growth books!!!!!!!!
It’s a long list, but please hold me accountable.
As I look back over the past year, I love what I see. Thanks for following along and continuing to send thoughtful messages and encouragements. Let’s move forward and allow 2018 to be so much more than 2017 ever dreamed of being.
What goals have you set for yourself for this year?

A few good Books I’ve read this year with links:

- Herbs the Year Round, by the editors of Garden Way Publishing
- The Year-Round Solar Greenhouse, by Lindsey Schiller
- The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Country Living, by Abigail R. Gehring

- Let it Rot!, by Stu Campbell
- The Rodale Book of Composting, Rodale Press, publishers of Organic Gardening Magazine
Personal Growth (I need to read more of this kind):
- Failing Forward, by John Maxwell
- No More Dreaded Mondays, by Dan Miller
Fiction Books:
- One Second After, by William R. Forstchen

I will say these 3 took over my world until they were done. Excellent books could not put them down!!!
